FarmX 2025: Shaping the Future of Farming

01 August 2025

The much-anticipated FarmX 2025 is almost here, and it’s set to raise the bar for agricultural events in Tasmania. Not aiming to take over field days or deliver just another lineup of speakers in suits, FarmX is a curated experience designed to connect the entire farming community, explore new and exciting ideas, and inspire us all toward a stronger future for agriculture.

What sets FarmX apart is who’s behind it. This isn’t a top-down event; it’s been shaped by farmers who know what matters because they live it.

Every speaker, every session, and every conversation has been designed with on-farm relevance in mind. It’s not about box-ticking or business as usual. It’s about where we’re heading and how we can shape the future together.

Rooted in the deep history of Tasmanian farming, the event will be hosted at Woolmers Estate on Thursday 21 August. FarmX brings together a diverse lineup of thinkers, doers, innovators, and producers, all in one place. Whether you’re curious about new tech, want to understand the economics of agriculture, or simply connect with fellow farmers, there’s something for everyone.

At the heart of the day is a simple question: Where is agriculture heading, and how do we get there together?

Opening the program is economist Saul Eslake, one of Australia’s most respected economic minds and a leading voice on Tasmania’s economy. Saul will offer insights into the current landscape of agriculture and what lies ahead for the sector. As Tasmania undergoes significant policy shifts and market pressures, his perspective will help frame the opportunities and risks facing regional producers and agribusinesses alike.

From there, the program explores the full spectrum of what it means to be on farm. Oli Le Lievre, founder of Humans of Agriculture, as master of ceremonies, will guide the day with his signature approach to storytelling, reminding us that agriculture is powered not just by paddocks and profits, but by people. Through authentic stories, Oli brings to life farming, from tech start-ups and on-farm operations to community leadership and global food systems.

You’ll also hear from Luke Chaplain, a fourth-generation grazier and founder of SkyKelpie, who’s redefining livestock management through drone mustering. His work blends traditional stockmanship with cutting-edge innovation, making him one of Australia’s most compelling voices on the future of rural work.

Panels and presentations throughout the day will dive deep into topics like dairy, and beef systems, farm-ready connectivity, irrigation, food security, and the tech that’s already transforming the paddock.

There will also be a diverse mix of businesses exhibiting onsite, showcasing innovation, tools, and services from across the sector. From practical solutions to emerging technologies, the exhibitor space offers opportunities to explore what’s new and what’s next for your farm.

With support from Telstra, the event includes hands-on demonstrations from innovators like ZetifiSmart Paddock, and Optiweigh, showing what’s possible when data, hardware, and farming expertise meet.

But above all, FarmX is about connection. It’s a place for real conversations, unexpected ideas, and lasting relationships. We’ll finish the day with networking drinks, and we hope the conversations sparked throughout the day will continue long after the gates close.
In a world that’s changing faster than ever, FarmX is your chance to pause, look ahead, and be part of the movement shaping the future of farming in Tasmania.
